Charles P. Fossey 1889 - 1966

Charles P. Fossey was born on January 30, 1889, in Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Anton and Olivia [Stenerud] Fossey. He attended public schools in Mitchell County, and the Osage Seminary.

He lived in Rhame, North Dakota from 1909 to 1915. He returned to Lyle and operated a general merchandise store after his overseas service [in France] in World War I. He served as clerk in the office of Senator Nolan in 1921 and as postmaster at Lyle from 1922 until 1935, when he entered the farm equipment business. In 1940 he served as territory manager for Deere and Webber Co., and purchased the John Deere franchise in Austin in 1941.

Mr. Fossey was married to Edna Johnson, Lyle, on June 30, 1919. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the American Legion and Chamber of Commerce and a lifetime member of the DAV.

He died on April 26, 1966 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home [in Austin, Minnesota].

Surviving are his wife, Edna: three sons: Robert and Dean of Austin, and Dr. Darol Fossey of Minneapolis; one sister, Mrs. Hannah Martin, Austin; and by four brothers: Otto Fossey, St. Ansgar, Iowa, Edward, George and Mense Fossey, Lyle.

Funeral funeral services were held at 1:30 p m. on April 29, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church; Rev. G. C. Knutson officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery with Worlein Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles Fossey
Died in Austin

A former Lyle area and business man, Charley Fossey, 77, died Tuesday, April 26 [1966], following a year and one half illness in St. Mark Retirement Home, Austin.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 29, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Austin, with the Rev. G. C. Knutson officiating. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery at Austin.

Charley Fossey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Fossey, was born in Mitchell County east of Otranto January 30, 1889. He attended the rural Pleasant Prairie school in Otranto township and also the Cedar Valley Seminary, Osage.

He served in World War I in France, and later worked in a store in Rhame, N. D.

He was married to Edna Johnson of Lyle June 30, 1919. The couple lived in Lyle where Charley operated a department store with his brother-in-law, later was Lyle Postmaster and also operated a Gamble store in Lyle.

Later they moved to St. Paul where Charley served a term in the Legislature as clerk under Senator Nolan. They moved back to Austin where Charley was the founder of the Fossey Implement Co. which he operated until his health failed.

He is survived by his wife, Edna, three sons, Dean and Robert of Austin and Dr. Darol Fossey, Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Gilbert Martin of Austin; four brothers, Otto of St. Ansgar, Mense, George and Eddie, all of Lyle.
