OSAGE, IOWA - Gertrude Brandau, 102, of Osage, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Eden Presbyterian Church, 3105 Glass Ave., Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Rudd.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the Eden Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage - 641-732-3706.

Gertrude Brandau

OSAGE — Gertrude Brandau, age 102, of Osage, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Eden Presbyterian Church, 3105 Glass Ave., Rudd, with Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Rudd. Visitation is from 1-2 p.m. Monday before services at the Eden Presbyterian Church.

Gertrude was born December 19, 1906, to Harm and Jennie (Buntjer) Hoppen in Rosemont, Neb. She was one of five children. On March 16, 1936, she was united in marriage to Edgar Brandau at her parents’ home in Rosemont. Edgar and Gertie farmed in the Rudd area until his death in May of 1969. She then moved to Charles City, living there until 2004, at which time she moved to Evergreen senior living apartments in Osage.

She was a resident of Faith Lutheran Home for the past 2-1/2 years. Gertie was a member of the Eden Presbyterian Church, and the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Rudd Jolly Jacks and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed playing “500,” gardening and was a great cook. She also enjoyed doing crafts, quilting, crocheting, and knitting.

Survivors include a daughter, Elaine (Charlie) Fouts of Floyd; grandson Dana (Julie) Aschenbrenner and children, Joseph, Sam and John of Iowa City; grandson Mike (Beth) Aschenbrenner and children, Corey, Emma and Mikayla of Lake Mills; grandson Steve (Kristi) Aschenbrenner and children, Dylan and Claudia of Osage; granddaughter Michelle (Barry) Sweet of Charles City; sister-in-law Ruth Ploeger of Charles City; brother-in-law Robert Brandau of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar in May of 1969; three sisters and one brother.
