Gunhild (a.k.a. Gunnel) Kittleson was born July 28, 1873 near St. Ansgar, Iowa [the daughter of Knut and Tonni (Svenson) Kittleson, one of 17 children]. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Ansgar, at the U.N. Lutheran Church. In July 1896 she was married to August Ostby. This union was blessed with three children, Thea, aged 13, Olaf, three years, and a little baby about a month old.
She was taken sick with pneumonia and died after about nine days of suffering. Though her sufferings were great at times, the death was very quiet. Before she passed away, she repeatedly told her pastor and her dear ones that she kept close to her Saviour Jesus Christ in faith.
Eleven years ago she was taken sick with inflammatory rheumatism. After surviving the acute attack, she however, never regained full strength and vigor, wherefore she had less vitality to battle against the disease which attacked her lately.
The funeral was held at the U.N. Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, on February 11, 1911, Rev. Waldeland officiating. The remains were laid to rest at the U.N. Lutheran Cemetery north of town.
The following from away attended the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Higgs and daughter from Waterloo, Theo Myher and wife of Lyle, Mr. and Mrs. Berndt Anderson of Mona.
