#2 of 2 items:DEATH OF MRS J. C. WESTENBERGER
Last Friday evening the people were shocked at the report that Mrs. J. C. Westenberger had just passed away at the hospital at Hampton, where she had been taken a little more than a week before. It was realized that her condition was serious, but it was hoped that she might obtain relief but all efforts proved unavailing.
Maria Josephine Westenberger, nee Toeter, was born July 1, 1879, at Toeterville, Iowa. At this place she was also baptized in the name of the triune God. March 26, 1893, as a girl of thirteen years, she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church by Pastor Landgrebe.
On May 4, 1898 she was married to Dr. J. C. Westenberger of St. Ansgar. This union was blessed with one son and one daughter.
Though apparently well and robust, the deceased sister was repeatedly severely ill. About five years ago she submitted to a dangerous operation for goiter. After he recuperation, symptoms of a malicious internal malady made another surgical operation necessary. Having strengthened herself for this ordeal by Word of God and sacrament she peacefully submitted to this extreme measure, from which, according to a divine dispensation, she was not to recover. She departed from this vale of tears last Friday evening at five-thirty.
The days of her pilgrimage were 48 years, 4 months and 17 days.
She is survived by her grief stricken husband, Dr.J. C. Westenberger, her son, Dr. Lorenz Westenberger, who at this time is taking a post graduate course in medicine and surgery over in Europe, her daughter, Miss Adeline, her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Toeter, and four sisters, Mrs. Alice Nitardy of Chicago, Mrs. Emma Grube and Miss Amanda Toeter of Toeterville and Mrs. Metha Meineck of Fargo, N. Dak.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran Church with interment at the St. Ansgar Cemetery, Reverend Brammer officiating.
