ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Funeral services for Clarence C. Bless, 67, who died at his farm home Tuesday, June 16, [1964] were held Saturday, June 20, [1964] at the Immanuel Lutheran Church here with the Rev. W. T. Wolfram of Ventura officiating.
Clarence Carl Louis Bless was born February 20, 1897 in Rock Township, Mitchell County, the son of the late Louis and Henrietta Hasse Bless. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rock Township by the Rev. J. Westenberger. He was confirmed March 31, 1912 at St. John’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. J. Gemaehlich. In 1936 he transferred his membership from St. John’s to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.
To this union four children were born; Howard of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Donald (Frances) Morasch of Riceville; Darold of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Carl (Doreen) Finnesgaard of Kenyon, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Bless is survived by his wife, Dora, four children, five grandsons, five granddaughters, two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Wilma) Wagner of St. Paul, Minnesota and Mrs. Herbert (Dora) Tesch of Long Prairie, Minnesota; also many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Mr. Bless was a veteran of World War I, and a lifetime resident of Mitchell County. He was a member of the Mitchell County Barracks Post No. 1391 of the Veterans of World War I and the Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion.
He served many years on his church board, and his local school board. He had enjoyed good health until four years ago when he suffered his first severe heart attack. He partially recovered and was quite well until two weeks ago when he was stricken at his home.
Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Church cemetery, Rock Township with the Rev. Wolfram in charge of the committal services.
