#2:NOTE:
On December 18, 1963 the Mason City Globe Gazette had a story about a fundaiser sponsored by Our Savior's Lutheran Church to assist with Cyndy's medical costs.
The article mentions the scheduling of an unusual operation by a Dr. Cree from London, England where he would make a transplant, or bone marrow graft. This is only his fourth experience in this new type of transplant. The donor is Cyndy's father, who had marrow taken to determine if it could be used. He has been isolated so no germs could be carried to Cyndy.
Cyndy has undergone the first phase of this unusual operation. She was give a potent drug to kill her bone marrow -- a drug which is a member of the mustard family. The doctor said the next three weeks are critical. Cyndy's mother will remain with her. No one is permitted in her room.
The transplant was to cost $3,000.
