ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Funeral services for Lawrence Pike, age 57, who died Wednesday, September 8, 1971, at a Mason City, hospital of injuries he suffered on Thursday, September 2, 1971, in a truck-train accident east of Northwood, Iowa, will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 1971, at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine, two daughters, Miss Linda Pike of Austin. Minnesota, and Miss Helen Pike of Rochester, Minnesota; one son, Wayne, at home; five sisters: Mrs. Chester Hendrickson of Austin, Minnesota, Mrs. Edward Nelson of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Mrs. Harold Knutson of Riverside, California, Mrs. Dean Thompson of Toeterville, Iowa, and Mrs. Everett Braun of Grafton, Iowa; and two brothers, Anton of St. Ansgar, Iowa, and Warren of Clear Lake, Iowa.
Schroeder and Houg Funeral Home in St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

#2:Lawrence Pike, St. Ansgar, died Wednesday forenoon, September 8, 1971 at a Mason City hospital from injuries suffered in a truck-train collision near Carpenter, September 2. Funeral services were held Friday, September 10 at First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar, the Rev. Donald Comnick officiating. Schroeder and Houg Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 358.
He was born January 7, 1914, in Deer Creek township, Worth county, and baptized by the Rev. M.E. Waldeland. He was confirmed by the Rev. Olaf Langehough at the Deer Creek Lutheran church. He attended the Otranto and St. Ansgar schools, graduating from St. Ansgar high school in 1930.
He was a veteran serving in World War II from 1942 to 1945. On October 7, 1945 he married Elaine Ruth Wilde at St. John's Lutheran church, Mitchell. He was a member of the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar, active in many church organizations and a member of the American Legion Post 358.
Mr. Pike is survived by his wife, Elaine, two daughters, Linda, Austin, Minn.; and Helen, Rochester, Minn.; one son, Wayne at home; five sisters, Mrs. Chester (Laura) Hendrickson, Austin, Mrs. Edward (Evelyn) Nelson, Albert Lea, Minn.; Mrs. Harold (Edna) Knutson, Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. Dean (Delores) Thompson, Toeterville; and Mrs. Everett (Crystal) Braun, Grafton; and two brothers, Anton, St. Ansgar, and Warren, Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

DIED FOLLOWING
TRAIN ACCIDENTLawrence Pike, 57, died September 8, 1971, at St. Joseph Mercy hospital in Mason City, Iowa. Mr. Pike had been unconscious since a truck-train accident on September 2, west of Carpenter.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Rev. Don Comnick was in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery, where military rites were held by Post 358 of the American Legion.
Lawrence Leonard Pike, son of Edwin and Mary Johnson Pike, was born on January 7, 1914, in Deer Creek Township, Worth county, Iowa. He was baptized by Rev. M.D. Waldeland and was confirmed by Rev. Olaf Langehough at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church. He attended the Otranto and St. Ansgar schools, graduating from the St. Ansgar high school in 1932.
He entered military service in March 1942, where he served overseas in World War II returning home in April of 1945.
He married Elaine Ruth Wilde on October 7, 1945 at St. John's Lutheran church, Mitchell.
Mr. Pike was a member of First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, and was active in church organizations. He was also a member of American Legion Post 358. At the time of his death he was employed by St. Ansgar Grain and Feed.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Mr. Pike was driving a grain truck as an employee of the St. Ansgar Grain and Feed Company, and was traveling east on highway 105 as the Chicago Great Western freight approached from the south. He saw the train and attempted to stop. The truck fishtailed and tipped over on its side on the track and the train bumped the truck. He severed head injured and a broken arm in the accident, and was hospitalized in Mason City. The accident took place on September 2, 1971.
