Margaret Elizabeth McGrath, 89, died Friday, July 28, 2000 at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Margaret was born December 8, 1910 in Riceville, Iowa, to Thomas and Jessie (Farnham) Walker. She graduated from Riceville High School and then graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Minnesota. She first taught school in Clarion, Iowa, where she met John David McGrath.
They were married on July 27, 1940 in Riceville. They moved to Austin a few years after their marriage and she began teaching at Neveln Elementary School. She taught grade school students for many years.
Margaret enjoyed playing cards and was involved in bridge clubs. She traveled extensively and had supported a number of needy children overseas. She volunteered her time for Meals on Wheels and often enjoyed the stitch-and-bitch club.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas A. and Helen M. McGrath, Shoreview, Minnesota, John M. and Helen D. McGrath, Comstock, Wisconsin; daughter and son-in-law, Mary M. Ronnie Uliom, LeRoy, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Bernard Eyestone, Riceville; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Esther Walker, Emily, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John David McGrath; brothers, Thomas G. Walker, Donald Walker and Robert Walker.
Casket bearers will be Thomas B. McGrath, Jeffrey A. McGrath, Jason Sorenson, Mark Davis, Craig Hokanson, Mike Monseur.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. James C. Peck officiating.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, [Mitchell county], Iowa.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and Monday for one hour before the service at the chapel.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
