ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Annis J. Thorson, 87, of St. Ansgar, died Saturday, March 16, 1996, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center West, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar.
Annis J. Thorson was born October 31, 1908, on the family farm in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, a son of Ole E. and Amelia (Moe) Thorson. He lived in the St. Ansgar area all his life, all but nine years on the family farm.
He married Rose Streich on October 6, 1934, at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.
He was an active member of the U.S. Farmers Association and recently received the Iowa Pioneer Family Award given by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Thorson of St. Ansgar; two sons, Jerry Thorson, Waverly, and Merlyn Thorson, St. Ansgar; one sister. Rose Fries, St. Ansgar; six grandchildren, Michelle Sears, Teresa Thorson, Jon Thorson, Cory Thorson, Allison Thorson and Greg Thorson; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Anna Sears.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alma Sanders and Mildred Tesch; and five brothers, Roy, Clifford, Leon, Donald and Hubert Thorson
