March 21, 1904 - November 24, 1976

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- Services for LaVerne R. Falk, 72, who died early Wednesday at his home of cancer, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Falk was the owner and operator of L.R. Falk Construction Co. for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Esther; two daughters, Mrs. D.H. (Janice) Campbell of Grand Ronde, Oregon, and Mrs. Terry (Dorothy) McMillan of Anaheim, California; a son, David of St. Ansgar; and a brother, Sherwin of Mason City.

Schroeder and Dunn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LaVerne R. Falk

Funeral services for LaVerne R. Falk, 72 who died at his home in St. Ansgar November 24, were held November 27 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Norman Betke officiating.

LaVerne Richard Carl Falk was born in St. Ansgar March 21, 1904, the son of Herman E. and Hattie (Albrecht) Falk. He was baptized May 10, 1904 by the Rev. William Janzow and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church here by the Rev. Paul Brammer May 15, 1919.

Mr. Falk was graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1922. April 28, 1924 he married Esther Blakestad in Lyle, Minnesota with the Rev. Olaf Langehough officiating. Three children were born to them.

He was owner-operator of the L. R. Falk Construction Co. which he founded here in 1929.

As an active member of his community, Mr. Falk served on the Town Council, as Mayor of St. Ansgar, on the local and country school boards, the volunteer fire department and was involved in manyother community activities. For several years he served as director of the Iowa Limestone Producers Association and was elected president in 1949. He had also served as director on the National Limestone Institute with headquarters in Washington, D.C. and was elected president for one term in 1961.

Mr. Falk was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a member of it’s Voters Assembly, having served as a church officer and was on various committees over the years and a delegate to District conventions of his church.

This past summer a dinner for Mr. Falk and his wife (Mr. St. Ansgar) was held here by the St. Ansgar Chamber of Commerce members and their wives, and he was presented with a special plaque for his many years of community service by Mayor L. R. Michaels.

Mr. Falk is survived by his wife; Esther; three children, Mrs. Douglas (Janice) Campbell of Grand Ronds, Oregon; David of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Terry (Dorothy) McMillen of Anaheim, California; seven grandchildren, Bob and Jim Campbell, Jeff, Mike and Jennifer McMillen, and Andrea and Lindsey Falk; one brother, Sherwin of Mason City; a niece and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Victor.

Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Betke in charge of the committal services.
