OSAGE, IOWA -- Tentative arrangements for the funeral of Sam Mericle, Illinois Central coal chute operator, who was fatally injured Wednesday in a fall into the coal pit, provide for services Friday afternoon.

Mr. Mericle was 34 years old and a native of Orchard, Iowa. he had been employed by the railway for 17 years.

Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Edith Mericle, Osage; two sisters; a half brother; and two half sisters.
