OSAGE, IOWA — Mrs. Luva Torney, 89, died Monday at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. A resident of Osage many years, she had lived at Salsbury Home in Charles City the last four years.

Luva Whipple was born July 23, 1873, in Vermont, the daughter of Jonathan and Celia Whipple. She came here as a young girl and was married to Edward James Torney. They farmed near Osage until his death in 1950. She was also preceded in death by a son and two brothers.

Surviving are four sons, Gordon, Minneapolis; Grant, Waterloo; Merle, Kansas City; Dean, Little Falls, Minnesota; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Penney, Iowa City and Miss Celia Torney, Minneapolis; 18 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Kate Campbell, West Union.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church here with Champion Funeral Home in charge.
