CARPENTER, IOWA -- Delmar Adolph Stehn, 76, of Carpenter, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at his home.

He was born on September 12, 1922, in rural Carpenter, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Mabel (Smith) Stehn. He graduated from the Carpenter Public Schools System in 1941 and went into farming west of Carpenter, Iowa.

He retired from farming in 1975. In 1965, he went to work for Northwood Co-op Elevator at the rural Carpenter branch and retired in 1985. He worked part-time in retirement for Red's Ag Service in Carpenter.

He married Edna Floy on October 21, 1945, at the Lutheran church parsonage at Thornton, Iowa. He enjoyed watching television sports, cats and flowers, plus family and grandchildren. He was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church and the Carpenter Community Center.

Survivors include four children: Jim Stehn and wife, Eldora, Northwood, Iowa; Ron Stehn, Shenandoah, Iowa; Dan Stehn and Donna, Cresco, Iowa; and Kathy Stehn, Fairmont, Minnesota; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Della Matt and her husband, the Rev. Joe Matt, Austin, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by one brother, Russell Stehn; and by one sister, Ethel Tesch.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 29, 1999, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, rural Carpenter, Iowa, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Burial will be in Newburg Township Cemetery, Carpenter, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today, Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th Street South, Northwood, Iowa, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Arrangements are by Conner Colonial Funeral Home of Northwood, Iowa.

CARPENTER - Delmar Adolph Stehn, 76, of Carpenter, died Wednesday (March 24, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 29, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Newberg Township Cemetery, Carpenter.

Friends may call from 3 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th Street South, Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.

Delmar Adolph Stehn was born on Sept. 12, 1922, in rural Carpenter, the son of Adolph and Mabel (Smith) Stehn. He attended and received his education in the Carpenter School system, graduating from Carpenter High School in 1941.

After completing his schooling, he went into farming west of Carpenter and continued to farm until 1975. In 1965, he started working for the Northwood Co-op Elevator in the Carpenter Branch until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he worked part time for Red's Ag. Service in Carpenter.

He was united in marriage to Edna Floy on Oct. 20, 1945, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Thornton.

He enjoyed watching sports on T.V., cats and flowers, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren, as they were an important part of his life.

He was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter and also a member of the Carpenter Community Center.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Jim Stehn and his wife, Eldora, of Northwood, Ron Stehn of Shenandoah, Dan Stehn and his wife, Donna, of Cresco, and Kathy Stehn of Fairmont, Minn.; six grandchildren, Tracey Dunn of Perry, Toni Branstad of Charleston, S.C., Rodney Stehn of Northwood, Molly Stehn of Cedar Falls, and Katie and Maggie Stehn of Cresco; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Branstad of Charleston, S.C., Tiffany and Austin Dunn of Perry; a twin sister, Della Matt and her husband, the Rev. Joe Matt, of Austin, Minn.; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Russell Stehn; and one sister, Ethel Tesch.
