CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Marreld Cecil King, 89, of Charles City, passed away on Monday (June 1, 2009) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 5, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, Iowa, with Pastor James Allard officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery [Riceville]. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville and one hour before services at the funeral home.
Marreld Cecil King was born on April 23, 1920, on the family farm northeast of Riceville, to his parents George and Eva (Johnson) King. He attended country school through the fourth grade.
He was united in marriage to Bernice Seidel on October 9, 1940, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville. To this union two daughters and four sons were born. Marreld farmed for a few years, owned and operated a feed truck in Riceville, and worked at Oliver Corporation in Charles City before retiring after 31 years. Marreld was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to collect guns and shotgun shells. He traveled to many states to attend gun and cartridge shows. He won many trophies and awards for his efforts.
Marreld is survived by one daughter, Darlys and Rick Rogers, of Osage; four sons: Fred and Sharon King, of Charles City, Duane and Cleone King, of Floyd, Wayne and Deborah King, of Pensacola. Fla., and Cecil and Kathleen King, of Robbins, Iowa; one brother, Melvin (Bud) King of Austin, Minn., and a brother-in-law, Harold and Wilma Seidel, of Riceville; 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice; a daughter Leona Parish; a great-granddaughter, Kellie Sue King; a great-great-granddaughter, Aspen Faith Richards; and five sisters.
