Funeral services were held on Friday, October 21, 1988, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, for mary "Winnie" Hungerford, 94, of Osage. The Rev. Leon Connolly officiated and burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. She died on Tuesday, October 18, 1988 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, of natural causes.
She was born in Mitchell County near Johnsburg, Minnesota, on October 2, 1894, the daughter of Peter and Gertrude Schlaff. She was educated in the Johnsburg, Minnesota schools, and in Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage. She later worked as a telephone operator in Chicago, Illinois for a time.
She married Roy G. Hungerford on February 14, 1919 in Chicago. They moved to Iowa and made their home in Osage. Mrs. Hungerford had been a resident of Faith Lutheran Home, Osage, since 1971.
Mr. Hungerford died in 1959. She was also preceded in death by her parents; seven sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Betty DeMar of Bloomington, Minnesota; three sons: Jean of Des Moines, and Charles and Jim, both of Osage; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
