Sherwin R. Kittleson passed away on December 13, 1990.

He was born on October 4, 1908, the son of George and Matilda (Knutson) Kittleson.

He was a barber in St. Ansgar for many years, and had his barbershop in the basement of a building on 4th street.

Sherwin married Ila Bookhart on April 28, 1930, in Mason City, Iowa. She was born on October 17, 1906 in Breda, Iowa, to Edward W. and Augusta (Sinn) Bookhart. They were the parents of four children: Edward, Sherwin (Stan), Karen, and Roger.

He is survived by his wife, Ila, and by his children: Edward Kittleson and his wife, Mary, of Greene, Dr. Sherwin (Stan) Kittleson and his wife, Judi, of Angel Fire, New Mexico, Karen Bloom and her husband, Darrell, of Austin, Minnesota, and Roger Kittleson and his wife, Julie, of Waterloo, Iowa; by numerous other descendants.

He was buried in First Lutheran Cemetery at St. Ansgar.

Funeral Services Held Monday for Sherwin Kittleson at First Lutheran Church

Funeral services for Sherwin Raymond Kittleson, 82, of St. Ansgar, who died December 13, 1990 at Osage, were held Monday, December 17, at First Lutheran Church with the Reverend Robert Porisch officiating.

Mr. Kittleson was born October 4, 1908 in St. Ansgar to George and Mathilda Knutson Kittleson. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College, now University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls.

Sherwin married Ila Bookhart on April 28, 1930. He barbered in Arthur and Owask, returning to St. Ansgar in 1942 where he continued barbering until April of 1989.

Sherwin was instrumental in starting youth baseball and was one of the founders of Athletics, Inc. organized for the development of the athletic field. He was active in Boy Scouts and a member of the school board. He was a member of the Forte Milers Chorus and was awarded Barbershopper of the Year in 1987.

Sherwin is survived by his wife, Ila of St. Ansgar; three sons, Edward and wife Mary Ann of Greene; Sherwin (Stanton) and wife Judi of Davenport; and Roger and wife Julie of Waterloo; one daughter, Karen and husband, Darrell Bloom of Austin, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Violet Hildreth of Austin, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
