ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Roger L. Krause, age 88, of St. Ansgar, died on Monday, October 4, 1999, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Roger L. Krause was born on Dec. 16, 1912, near Rudd, to Wesley and Lottie (Dowd) Krause. He grew up in the Rudd area, graduating from Rudd High School in 1930. Roger married Vera Blunt on Dec. 10, 1935, in Mason City. They farmed for 17 years in the Rudd and Otranto areas, owned a hardware store in Carpenter, and was a partner in the Carpenter Lumber Yard. Roger played with several baseball teams in his younger years. He spent his retirement years at the Little Ponderosa Resort, Longville, Minn., enjoying gardening and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, of St. Ansgar; two sons, Norris Krause and special friend, Shirley Severson, of Longville, Minn.; and Marvin Krause, of Aurelia; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James; two sisters, Ruth Burlingham and Vivian Orr; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Krause.
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, of St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.
