Thomas Albert Wolf was born July 19, 1944, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Ralph and Albina (Bastyr) Wolf. When he was 3 years old his family moved to Stacyville, Iowa. He graduated from Visitation High School in 1962, where he was active in baseball and basketball. It was during this time that he began working with youth in sports, a passion he carried on throughout his life.

Tom graduated from Mason City Junior College (now NIACC) in 1964 and the University of Northern Iowa in 1967. He began teaching social studies and coaching at St. Mary's High School in Storm Lake that same year.

Tom was united in holy matrimony with Ann Marie May on Dec. 20, 1969, at St. John's Church in Johnsburg, Minn. That same year Tom began teaching and coaching for Sheffield-Chapin School District at the middle school in Chapin. After Chapin closed its building, Tom worked in the elementary and high schools in Sheffield teaching social studies, P.E. and coaching. After retiring in 2001, Tom continued to coach basketball and golf until 2008.

Tom was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell since 1973 and served as a lector. He loved sports, playing town team baseball, slowpitch softball, tennis, basketball and golf. Tom was a life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Celtics. An early riser, Tom began each day with a long walk and was an avid reader. Above all else, his family was very special to him. He loved being a father and grandfather, and focused much of his time and energy on his family.

His family includes his wife of 39 years, Ann Wolf, Sheffield; sons, James (Kris) Wolf, Mason City, Benjamin (Kendra) Wolf, Grimes, and Abraham Wolf, Sheffield; grandchildren, Amara, Jacob and Ryan; sisters, Mary (John) Christoffersen, Gainesville, Fla., and Judy (Keith) Ramker, Leesburg, Fla; brothers, Ralph (Audrey) Wolf, Mason City, Richard (Mary) Wolf, Rockford, Ill., and Joe (Rosie) Wolf, Cedar Rapids; many nieces, nephews; and a large extended family.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John as an infant, and Paul in 2006.

Arrangements are by Retz-Grarup Funeral Home, 641-892-4241.
