RICEVILLE, IOWA - Kenneth Martin, age 77, of Riceville passed away at his residence in rural Riceville on Wednesday, April 1, 2009.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 6, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Riceville. Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville. A Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Kenneth C. Martin was born in Osage on May 30, 1931, the son of Cycil and Ruth (Rogers) Martin. He attended and graduated from The McIntire Schools in 1949. Ken served his country for two years in the Army.

While stationed in Denver, Colo., he met Janice Lammers. They were united in marriage on June 2, 1956, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester, Minn. Kenneth farmed his entire life in the Jenkins Township, outside of Riceville. He also worked for the REA as a meter reader and as a correspondent for the Waterloo Courier. Ken and Janice enjoyed dancing to country music & the Buck Hollow Band. He always raised cattle, enjoyed reading, visiting with friends and neighbors, was a great storyteller, and was ready to lend a helping hand to all. Ken and Jan always looked forward to Country Fest, music and friends.

Survivors include his six children: Laurie (Dan) Schwarck of Riceville, Cathy Martin of Shell Rock, Doug (Sue) Martin of Postville, Kellie (Tim) Martin of Bettendorf, Amy (Duane) Walther of Denver, and Lisa Smith of Lime Springs; 13 grandchildren: Brad, Mike, Anthony, Alyssa Schwarck, Brittany, David Martin, Julia, Jenna Martin, Dylan, Kyle, Aaron Walther, Phillip and Lauren Smith; and three great-grandchildren: Madison, Macie and Calhan.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice, on Sept. 22, 2008; and his mother and father-in-law, Frank and Hildred Lammers.
