STACYVILLE, IOWA - William J. Beland, 84, died on Saturday, April 5, 1997, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home of natural causes.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Visitation Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating.
The body will be donated to the Anatomy Department at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville at a later date.
William was born April 27, 1912, at Loda, Ill., the son of William A. and Kathryn (Ryan) Beland. He came to Iowa by train with his family in 1918. He lived in Charles City and later moved to Burr Oak Township. He married Martha Meyerhofer on Aug. 28, 1940, at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. They lived in Union Township near Stacyville where William owned and operated Beland's Dairy Farm until his retirement in 1977. William served as mayor of Stacyville for four years.
Survivors include his wife, Martha, of Stacyville; six sons, John Beland, and his wife, Marcia, of Bloomington, Minn., Douglas Beland, and his wife, Ellyn, of Oxford, David Beland and his wife, Deborah, of Owatonna, Minn., Steven Beland and his wife, Lorraine, of St. Ansgar, Michael Beland and his wife, Terri, of Stacyville, and Dennis Beland and his wife, Melody, of Owatonna; three daughters, Carol Pollock, and her husband, Jim, of Hildreth, Neb., Susan Tan of Tampa, Fla., and Ann Beland of Chicago, Ill.; five sisters, Margaret Heimer and Phyllis Schmidt, both of Stacyville, Frances Beland of Minneapolis, Minn., Irene Beland of Rochester, Minn., and Joan Schmidt of Austin, Minn.; and one brother, Ralph Beland of North Port, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Beland; and one sister, Lucille Wright.
