Chester `Chet' Nathan Stromley
NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Chester "Chet" Nathan Stromley, 76, of Northwood, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 1997) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Shell Rock Lutheran Church with the Rev. Alf Merseth officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. South, and one hour prior to service time on Friday at the church.
Chester ``Chet'' Nathan Stromley was born on July 24, 1920, in Worth County, the son of Christian and Nelina (Johnson) Stromley. He attended and received his education in the rural schools near Otranto.
He was united in marriage to Eleanor Sanvik on Oct. 5, 1941, at First Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood. After their marriage they lived near Garner where he worked on a farm for Louie Grell before moving back to Northwood, working for the Rock Island Railroad as a section foreman. He also worked for Karks Rendering Works in Osage, Greene Rendering Works in Greene, and the National By Products in Mason City. He also worked for LeRoy and Mickey Arnold on their farm near Northwood, Crystal Sugar Company in Mason City, Winnebago Industries in Forest City, and Curries Manufacturing Company in Mason City, until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement he enjoyed mowing lawns and blowing snow for several people in Northwood.
He enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers, working with his hands in his garage, and fishing.
He was a member of First Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Stromley of Northwood; four children, Sharon Gentz and her husband, Richard, of Northwood; Darlene Spear and her husband, Larry, of Hampton; Dennis Stromley and his wife, Kyla, of St. Ansgar, and Denise Geerlings of North Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Obert Stromley and his wife, DeAlda, of Marble Rock; Reuben Stromley and his wife, Helen, of Mason City; Robert Stromley and his wife, Dee, of Brunswick, Ga.; Kenneth Stromley of Sacramento, Calif.; Rodney Stromley and his wife, Wilma, of Nora Springs; Wayne Stromley and his wife, Linda, of Mason City, and Mike Stromley of Rhode Island; seven sisters, Sadie Thompson of Joice; Esther Nelson of Northwood; Ruby Mae Stromley of Joice; Ardith of Denver, Colo.; Barbara of Mason City, Marg of Mason City, and Rachael of Albert Lea, Minn.; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Stromley; and two brothers, George and Roger Stromley.
