Royal R. Madison
Deceased was born in Vershire, Orange county, Vt. In 1823; and died in Mitchell county, Iowa, May 29th, 1895, aged 62 years.
This event was rendered doubly sad on account of the absence of near relatives, his wife being at the time in Seattle, Wash., and unable to reach here or even communicate except by mail, and his son in the gold diggings about 200 miles from Seattle could not be reached even by wire, and at this writing is probably not aware that his father has fallen a victim to the reaper of life’s harvest.
The deceased was married at the age of 27 to Miss Emily Kidder, of West Fairlee, VT. Three children blessed this union, two of who survive him, the youngest died in infancy.
In 1866 they moved to Kilburen City, Wis., remaining there a number of years, during which time the daughter married Mr. J. C. Knox. Following the star of emigration they moved to Minnesota and thence to Seattle, Wash., here he became a great sufferer from rheumatism, and was obliged to come east of the mountains, and travel from place to place in search of health. Partially recovering, he took contract work (carpenter) and flattered himself that he would soon be able to return to his family, but was cut down.
His remains were placed in the Orchard cemetery, services conducted by Rev. J. J. Benson of Lincoln.
