Lester N. Rowe
OSAGE, IOWA — Lester N. Rowe, 92, of Osage, died Monday (Feb. 28, 2005) at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Lester was born February 8, 1913, at Orchard, Iowa, the son of Ray and Tena (Nelson) Rowe. He attended rural school at Rock No. 7, and attended Osage High School through the 12th grade.
Lester then worked as a hired man and at the Oliver Co. in Charles City.
He was married to Dallas Nack on Nov. 17, 1936, at the Baptist Parsonage in Osage, Iowa. Lester and Dallas first set up housekeeping and farming in Rock Township, after which they moved to the Little Cedar area in 1944.
After one year, they moved to the Mitchell area, where they farmed Dallas's mother's farm for four years. They then moved to the Mildred Goplerud farm in Rock Township. Lester and Dallas remained on this farm for 33 years, before retiring and moving to Osage in 1982.
Dallas died on June 14, 2003. They had been married for 66 years. Lester served as President of the Board of Directors of the Osage Elevator. He also helped break ground for the parish hall of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage.
Lester enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture and gardening in his retirement years. He also helped his son, David, with farming during the planting and harvesting seasons.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be at the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, and will continue one hour before services on Friday at the church.
He is survived by two sons, Jerald Rowe and his wife, Pat, of Seward, Alaska, and David J. Rowe and his wife, Jane, of Osage; eight grandchildren, Bryan Rowe, Leslie Altac, Donna Leffler, Lynn Swenson, Thyra Burke, Christopher Rowe, Mary Anna Rowe and Joseph Rowe; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Alan (Phyllis) Rowe of Seattle, Wash.; and one sister, Marvel Kubicek of Osage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dallas Rowe; one grandson, Jon David Rowe and three brothers, Paul, Clyde and Earl Rowe.
