OSAGE, IOWA — Harold Swann, 78, of Osage, died Tuesday (March 30, 2004) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Harold was born August 28, 1925, on the family farm near Osage in the house that he lived in all of his life. Harold was the son of Lloyd Grant and Edith (Lesch) Swann.
As a child, he helped his father farm. He suffered several hip surgeries in his teens. Harold graduated from Osage High School in 1943.
On Aug. 27, 1944, in Osage, he married his high school sweetheart, Gwen Smith.
Harold continued farming until his death.
He also worked for years selling Harvestores for A.O. Smith Corp. He purchased Alexander Implement and changed the name to Swann Implement and later to Modern Farm Equipment.
His biggest interest was feeding cattle, which he continued to oversee until his death.
He was active in the Mitch-ell County Farm Bureau and served as its president for two years. He was also a 4-H leader for the Burr Oak Square Shooters.
In September 2003, he moved to the Faith Lutheran Home, where he enjoyed playing cards and having visitors.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour before services on Friday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Swann of Osage; one daughter, Dianne Swann of Overland Park, Kan.; one son, Daniel Swann and his wife, Deborah, of Osage; two grand-daughters, Heidi Shriver and her husband, Ryan, of Eagen, Minn., and Lori Kruse and her husband, Ben, of Farmington, Minn.; two grandsons, Travis Swann and Dustin Swann of Osage; three great-grandchildren, Nate and Alison Shriver and Adrianna Kruse.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
