ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Herbert Ferdinand Feldt, 87, of St. Ansgar died on Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township, Mitchell County, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery in St. Ansgar. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Herbert Ferdinand Feldt, son of Gustave and Alma (Schmidt) Feldt was born Oct. 20, 1915, on a farm in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was baptized Nov. 21, 1915, by the Rev. Reinecke. His sponsors were Mrs. George Glassel, Ferdinand Feldt, and Wilhelm Schmidt. He and his sister Helen were confirmed together at St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1932 and he was a lifelong member of St. John’s.
He attended school in Carpenter. He lived and worked on the parental farm until 1965, and then worked for several area farmers while living in St. Ansgar. In 1970, he moved to Carpenter where he lived until 1997 when he moved to St. Ansgar.
He enjoyed fishing with friends up north, helping at the Senior Saints Center and playing cards. He moved to Worth Living in June of 2001, the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in October of 2001, and into the Good Samaritan Center in December of 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Peterson; brother Wilmer (Barney); and brothers-in-law, Orvie Severson and Leland Ellingson.
He is survived by sisters, Agnes Severson of St. Ansgar, Irene Thompson and husband Charles of Austin, Minn.; a brother, Arnold and wife Joan of St. Ansgar; sister-in-law, Delores Feldt of St. Ansgar; brother-in-law Fred Peterson of Albert Lea, Minn.; 18 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Senior Saints Center of St. Ansgar.
