Dean P. Blake, 57, of 11670 300th St., Mason City, Iowa died Saturday Feb. 7, 2009 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Cerro Gordo county, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 11, 2009 at 10:30a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Meyer, Iowa; Rev. John Moser officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meyer, Iowa.

Visitation was held Tuesday from 4:00-7:00p.m. at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City with a scriptural wake service at 5:00p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour before the service on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Meyer, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Dean P. Blake Memorial fund.

Dean was born on October 26, 1951 in Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa, the son of Othmar and Gladys (Smith) Blake. He graduated from Osage High School in 1969.

Following high school he engaged in farming and has continued to farm. He later started working as a mechanic and worked in various shops until he opened B&J Auto, Mason City in 1978, which he has continued to own and operate.

He enjoyed hunting, going to farm auctions and especially spending time with his family and friends. He was well known for helping others without wanting credit, telling stories and jokes to make people laugh. He would also be known for his ability to be a good listener. He took great pride in restoring his red barn, which he has registered with Iowa Barn Restoration.

He is survived by his mother Gladys Blake, Stacyville, Iowa; five children Jason (Christy) Blake, Grafton, Iowa, Chad Blake and his girlfriend Larken Amador, Clear Lake, Iowa, Aaron (Casie) Sheehan, Shakopee, Minnesota, Amanda (Joe) Siems, Manly, Iowa and Anna Blake, Nora Springs, Iowa; eight grandchildren Kelsey Blake, Blazer Blake, Morgan Heidick, Carissa Blake, Carina Blake, Aidan Sheehan, Jalen Blake and Qyeison Blake-Tate; four brothers John (Mary) Blake, Cottonwood, Minnesota, Dano (Sue) Blake, Stacyville, Iowa, David (Kathy) Blake, Osage, Iowa and Tim (Kathie) Blake, Osage, Iowa and two sisters Jean (Dennis) Hemann, Osage, Iowa and Janet (Jeff) Chapman, Marshall, Minnesota and sister-in-law Joan Blake, St. Ansgar, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father Othmar Blake; by his sister Ruth Ann Blake, and by a brother Tom Blake.

Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
