POWERSMr. Alvin Powers for many years a respected citizen of Osage died at this home here-Wednesday evening March 28, 1906, after an illness of several months.
Mr. Powers was born in Vermont, December 9, 1839. In the spring of 1856, he went with this parents from St. Johnsburg to Wisconsin. At the outbreak of the civil war he entered the Union army and served through to the close. Returning to Oshkosh, he engaged in business. In 1868 he was married to Miss Etta Lynch Drew and in the following spring removed to Charles City, Iowa, where he engaged in farming for ten years. Afterwards he was in Rockford, Iowa for four years, then came to Osage where his home as been for twenty-three years.
Mr. Powers was a modest retiring man whose life centered in his home. Faithfulness to duty not only in large things but in the smaller affairs of life was his marked characteristic and resulted in respected citizenship, loyal patriotism and devotion to his family. He united with the Baptist church at Rockford twenty-five years ago and brought his membership to Osage. He loved the Bible, believed its doctrines of grace and sought to guide his life by its precepts.
The large funeral concourse attested the regard in which he was held and the sympathy of the community for Mrs. Powers and the family, all of whom are living except Edna and Grace, who preceded their father some years ago to the better land.
