ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Joseph Albert Follmuth, 71, of rural St. Ansgar, was called to his eternal home on Thursday (July 31, 2003), surrounded by his family at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.

He was born July 24, 1932, to Joseph A. and Marie (Hanson) Follmuth in Mitchell County. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, Joe attended Lyle (Minn.) Public Schools, graduating in 1950.

He served in the United States Army from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1955 as a sergeant at Fort Sill, Okla.

On June 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Marlys Johnson at Mona Lutheran Church in Mona. They have lived and farmed in rural St. Ansgar, Iowa, all their lives.

Joe was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle and of American Legion Post 105.

He was a dairy and grain farmer his entire life. and a member of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery board. His greatest joy was his crops, his cows and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed playing pool with his buddies. He always enjoyed sharing coffee and conversations with his many friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marlys, of St. Ansgar; four daughters, Kathie (Dave) Dahl of Lyle, Minn., Arlene (Kevin) Myhre of St. Ansgar, Gloria (Dick) Reding of Osage and Joy (Doug) Salz of St. Ansgar; one son, Steve (Corky) Follmuth of Stacyville; 13 grandchildren, Amy (Kevin) Stambaugh; Laura (Nick) Kuennen; Amanda Dahl; Anna, Rachel, Nicole Reding; Jeff Myhre; Kayla, Garrett, Mackenzie, Dillon Follmuth; Riley and Paige Salz; two great-grandchildren, Miranda and Kade Stambaugh; one sister, Ruth (Floyd) Kaster of Spring Valley, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, A. and Marie Follmuth; Uncle Albert and Aunt Manda Hanson; sister, Lorraine Gunderson Eye.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn., with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Interment is at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona with military rites by Lyle American Legion Post 105.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, Minn., with a 7 p.m. prayer service. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services on Sunday at the church.
