OSAGE, IOWA — Gerald W. Adams, 63, formerly of Stacyville, Iowa, died Tuesday (March 11, 2003) at his home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Interment will be in Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Stacyville.

Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. A scripture service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services Monday.

Gerald was born May 10, 1939, in Stacyville, the son of Benedict F. and Caroline (Weber) Adams. He attended and graduated from Visitation School in Stacyville. After graduation, he worked with his father in the family business, Adams Motor Co. in Stacyville, and took over ownership when his father retired in 1967.

Gerald closed the car dealership in the mid 1980s and he and his brother Melvin converted the space to a four-lane bowling alley called “Imperial Lanes.” Gerald ran that business from 1987 until he sold it in 1994.

Gerald then moved to Osage and worked at Cooper’s Osage Chrysler as a bookkeeper.

Gerald retired last year and has enjoyed his retirement with family and friends.

Gerald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Austin Eagles Club. As an Eagles member, Gerald hosted many fundraising events in Stacyville as part of their annual Cancer Telethon. Gerald opened his home as a host to two foreign exchange students from Bulgaria.

Mitko Mitev graduated from Osage High School and has returned to Bulgaria. Miroslav Jelev graduated from NIACC and is currently attending college in Pennsylvania. Because of Miros’s involvement in the boxing club of Rudd, Gerald became involved with the Hummel Boxing Club of Rudd.

Gerald also enjoyed going out to eat with friends, spending time with family and chatting on-line.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Jennie Adams of Osage; five nieces, Pat (John) Fisher of Dale City, Va., Mar Adams of Osage, Colleen Upton of Garden Grove, Calif., Sue (Don) Weber of Stacyville, and Liz (Rick) Stevens of Osage; one nephew, Mike Adams of Osage, eight great-nieces and nephews; and three great-great-nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Raymond and Melvin.
