Geraldine Piper, 79, of St. Ansgar, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, May 4, at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa. The Reverend Jay Amundson officiated. Inurnment was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Geraldine Jonette Wright Piper, was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on May 20, 1922, the daughter of John and Geraldine Samuels Wright. Her parents moved from Farley to Orchard, Iowa in 1924, where she attended the Orchard Consolidated School. Gerry attended Upper Iowa at Fayette one year preceding entrance to the Kahler Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. She graduated as an RN in September 1944. She was employed at the Oakridge Hospital, Oakridge, Indiana until the end of World War II.

Geraldine was united in marriage to Donald Piper on November 18, 1945 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She served as a registered nurse at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar from 1965 to 1968, as school nurse for the St. Ansgar Schools for nine years and in 1977 she returned to the Good Samaritan Center, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her grandchildren, outdoor life, family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time canoeing and bird watching at the cabin on the Cedar River that Don built.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and husband, Donald.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Dockum and husband, Gary and their children, Aaron, Jessica and Joshua and great-grandson, Isaac of Rock Falls; Christine Piper and husband, Jon Barry and their children, Natalie and Sydney of Rochester, Minnesota; Susan May and husband, Harry and their children, Cassie and husband, Troy Hanna, Hillary, Gabriel and Skyler of Stacyville; two sisters, Dorothy Neeley of State Center and Brenda Currier and husband, Owen of Mason City; a brother, Jack Wright of Pittsburg, California; nephews, a niece and cousins; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Knutson, Orpha and Wilburt Rogotzke, Marion and Myron Schmidt.

The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar was in charge of the arrangements.

GERALDINE PIPER

Her husband, Donald, died in September 1993.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, outdoor life, family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time canoeing and bird watching at their cabin that Don built on the Cedar River.

Gerry will be fondly remembered by three daughters, Carol Dockum and husband, Gary, their children, Aaron, Jessica and Joshua and great-grandson, Issac, of Rock Falls; Christine Piper and husband, Jon Barry, and their children, Natalie and Sydney, of Rochester, Minn.; Susan May and husband, Harry, and their children, Cassie and her husband, Troy Hanna, Hillary, Gabriel, and Skyler, of Stacyville; sisters, Dorothy Neeley, of State Center, and Brenda Currier and husband, Owen, of Mason City; brother, Jack Wright, of Pittsburg, Calif.; nephews, Terry and Lynn Neeley, and Tom and Jon Currier; niece, Ann Elizabeth Newell; cousins, Elizabeth Samuels-Behrens, of Bedford, Patricia Lawson, of Pearl City, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Knutson, Orpha and Wilburt Rogotzke, and Marion and Myron Schmidt.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and husband, Donald.
