Mrs. Francis Nelson Funeral March 30, 2002

Funeral services for Mrs. Francis (Esther) Nelson, 92, of Lyle, Minnesota, who died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held on Saturday, March 30 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lyle, with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating.

Esther was born on March 24, 1910, to Peter Henry and Minnie (Sievert) Fahje in Elkton, Minnesota where she resided until 1914, when the family moved to Kenmare, North Dakota. She was baptized on May 8, 1910 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Elkton, Minnesota, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kenmare, North Dakota on May 18, 1924.

She married Francis L. Nelson on September 6, 1936 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Kenmare. They moved to Lyle in 1938 where they have lived since that time. Esther enjoyed quilting, cooking and baking which she shared with many in the community of Lyle. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, a member of the Women of the ELCA in which she held many offices, including president; she also belonged to the Lyle Study Club and Woodbury Willing Workers.

Esther is survived by her husband Francis of Lyle; children, Shirley (Nels) Golberg of St. Ansgar; Jean Nelson of Lyle; Roger (Marjorie) Nelson of Lyle; Lois (Ronald) Peters of Austin, Minnesota; nine grandchildren: Lisa (John) Dockstader; Wendy (Chris) Patterson of St. Ansgar; Brent Golberg of Owatonna, Minnesota; Joel (Carrie) Nelson and Mark Nelson, Lyle; Janelle (John) Achenbach of Wazeka, Wisconsin; Tracy (Jim) Crews of Lyle; Rhonda Grandy of Helena, Montana; Robert (Marla) Peters of Beresford, South Dakota; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Irene Fahje and Helen Fahje, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Alice, brothers John, Walter, Bernie, Martin and Lester.

Interment was at Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle Minnesota.
