Dorothy Baldwin, 87, of Charles City, Iowa, and formerly of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A funeral Mass for Dorothy Baldwin will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Monsignor Stanley Hayek, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.
Friend s may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) where the St. Anthony Circle will recite the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and where there will be a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.
Dorothy Kathleen Mahoney Baldwin was born May 9, 1915, at St. Ansgar, the daughter of Frank and Winifred (White) Mahoney. She grew up on the family farm in Alta Vista and received her education from the Mitchell County country schools. On August 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to Harvey Baldwin at Knoxville. They first resided in Pleasantville and then returned to Charles City, which became their lifelong home. They were members of the Immaculate Conception Church where Dorothy was active with the Rosary Society. Harvey died on Aug. 30, 1970. Dorothy was very active in church and school activities, and also enjoyed the homemaking skills of baking and sewing. When not indoors, Dorothy could usually be found in the back yard with a favorite pet, tending her plants and flowers or watching birds alight at her feeder. Dorothy will always be remembered for her beautiful handwriting and the lovely letters she wrote to family and friends.
Living family members include a son, David (Diane) Baldwin of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Marilyn (Charles) Mylander of Stevensville, Md., and Suzanne (Dan) Brown of Charles City; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two very special nieces, Karen Parriott and Kathy Christensen.
Her parents, husband, and a sister, Alice Hayden of Waterloo, preceded her in death.
