ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- Bertha M. Tollefson, 78, of St. Ansgar, died Wednesday (Oct. 23, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home.

Bertha M. Tollefson was born April 27, 1918, in Bergen, N.D.

Survivors include two sons, David, of Lamberton, Minn., and Ray of Macon, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys DePin of Marengo, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, twin grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters.

Bertha Melvina Tollefson was born April 27, 1918 in Bergen, North Dakota, to Melvin H. and Emma Johnson Frank. On July 23, 1918 she was baptized into the Christian faith. She confirmed her baptismal faith at St. Paul's Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois on June 7, 1931 when Pastor G. S. Gullixson served the congregation. Bertha was a member of First Lutheran Church, Saint Ansgar, Iowa.

Bertha was a teenager when her mother died. Following her death, Bertha moved to Saint Ansgar, Iowa area and lived with her relatives, Julius and Amelia Kittleson.

Bertha was united in marriage to Clifford (Ted) M. Tollefson on July 8, 1936 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. God blessed their marriage with three children, David, Robert and Ray. Bertha and her family lived and farmed in the Fertile
and St. Ansgar area.

Bertha died October 24, 1996 at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Robert, twin grandchildren, Craig and Christine; four brothers, Howard, George, Ebon, and Ross; three sisters, Ida, Susan and Irene.

Bertha is survived by two sons: David of Lamberton, Minn., Ray of Macon, Georgia; one sister, Gladys Depin of Marengo, Illinois,; sister-in-law, Marge Frank of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and [step] great-grandchildren.
