NEW HAVEN, IOWA — Joseph J. Kirst, 89, of Osage, formerly of New Haven, died Friday (Nov. 6, 1998) at the Faith Home, Osage.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, New Haven, with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m. Also, a joint Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary at 7:30 p.m. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Joseph J. Kirst was born Sept. 19, 1909, near New Haven, the son of John and Anna (Meyer) Kirst. He graduated from St. Mary’s School in New Haven. Joseph married Miriam Carroll on April 4, 1945, at St. Peter’s Church in New Haven. The couple farmed the Kirst Century Farm near New Haven, and Joseph retired in 1979. Joseph was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam of New Haven; three daughters, Ann Hauschildt and her husband, Randy, of Hiawatha, Mary Rose and her husband, Jim, of Mason City, and Barbara Whitter and her husband, Terry, of Flower Mound, Texas; one son, John Kirst and his wife, Cindy, of New Haven; and eight grandchildren, Amy, Jason and Stacy Hauschildt, David and Danny Rose, and Neysa, Jessica and Lakota Kirst.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Viola Hanna, Mary Lockwood, and Veronica Coonradt; and one brother, Leonard Kirst.
