RICEVILLE, IOWA — John Beran, 96, of Riceville, died Friday (Oct. 23, 1998) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church, Saratoga, with the Rev. Tim Sir officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Saratoga Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville.

John Beran was born in Swanton, Nebrska, on December 26, 1901.

Survivors include two sons, George Beran, of Ames, and John Beran Jr., of Midsayap, Cotabato, Philippines; one daughter, Joanne Tonjes, of East Peoria, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mollie Buresh, of Wahoo, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, two sisters, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
