Dr. E.K. Allen was born on May 15, 1908 in Cresco, Howard county, Iowa, the son of E.H. and Maude Rose (Kuder) Allen. He was baptized into Christian faith on December 20, 1917 at the Cresco Methodist Church. He was educated in the Cresco schools and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1931 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.

For two years Dr. Allen was associated in dental practice with his father in Cresco. In 1933 he came to St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa, and established a practice lasting until his retirement in June 1997. Dr. Allen served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He confirmed his Christian faith on January 9, 1938 at First Lutheran Church, Saint Ansgar.

Dr. Allen was ably assisted in his dental practice by his wife, the former Eleanor Evans. They met when both were freshmen in Cresco High School and their courtship continued until marriage on June 15, 1934. They were blessed to share nearly 67 years of marriage. God blessed their marriage with one daughter, Marveen.

Dr. Allen was a multi-talented man. Whether crafting gold jewelry or building a two story house in the Canadian wilderness, his hands and mind were always busy. He believed that one's talents should be used to serve others. He took great pride in the dental work he provided to over 6000 patients during his years in practice.

Dr. Allen died on March 9, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Allen, his daughter Marveen Minish (and husband Robert), granddaughter Roberta Moeschter (and husband James), and a great-granddaughter Nicole Moeschter. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Esther Schuldt, and nieces and nephews.

THE FOLLOWING IS A BIOGRAPHICAL-NEWS STORY ABOUT DR. ALLEN AND AN INCIDENT RESULTING IN THE DEATH OF HUGO BUBLITZ. (FOR MORE ON THIS, SEE OBITUARY FOR HUGO BUBLITZ.)

C. Adams Assists in Saving Life;
Others Spread Lake Dragnet

CLEAR LAKE, IOWA — That Charles Adams was prominently connected with saving the life of Dr. E.K. Allen, St. Ansgar dentist, when the latter was thrown into the lake Wednesday was learned following abatement of the excitement incident to the tragedy which took the life of Hugo Bublitz, also of St. Ansgar.

Mr. Adams used first aid treatment in resuscitating Dr. Allen after he had been pulled from the water by Burdette Amundson and Tom Hanna who used a boat from the Frank Young dock close by. Strenuous work on the part of Mr. Adams and others who assisted brought results within a short time.

Mrs. Young telephoned to Percy Fitler, Clear Lake telephone man always foremost in rescue work. Verne Peterson, state boat inspector, and Don Huey, in the new boat recently launched by the state conservation commission, were active in organizing the work for recovery of the body of Mr. Bublitz.

In another boat were Roy Huey, Charter Huey and Milton Toinby. A dragnet was stretched between the two boats and started some distance from the overturned boat in which the two men had been fishing.

The body had not floated far and was recovered in the first drag made over the spot. The boat used by Mr. Bublitz and Dr. Allen is now at Touristville boat livery.
