Hal Bryant McKinley, age 75, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Military honors will be performed by the Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion.

Hal Bryant McKinley was born on the family farm in Newburg Township on December 11, 1924, the third son of Harold and Josephine (nee Myerly) McKinley. He spent all of his boyhood days on the farm homesteaded by his great-grandfather in 1855. The woods along the Cedar River and Deer Creek were his childhood playground. He and his two older brothers, Philip and Donald, helped their father in the diversified farming operation which included livestock, grain and a large production of Vegetables.

Hal attended school in St. Ansgar, participating in sports all four years of high school, and earning letters in football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from high school in 1943 and entered the armed forces in July of that year, serving in the Army Air Force in the Hawaiian Islands until 1946.

On May 18, 1946, Hal and Audrey McGillivray of Carpenter were married in the Deer Creek Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children - Nancy, Bryan and Mark.

Hal joined his father and brothers in the family business and for 35 years managed their farm machinery enterprise. Following the death of this older brother, Philip, he assumed the management of Acord Park Farms until his retirement in 1990.

He remained active as President of H.L. McKinley and Son's, vice president of Acorn Park Farms, vice president of Acorn Park Realty and a long time director of the Cedar Valley State Bank.

Hal and Audrey were always participating in the community affairs. Hal spent countless hours with the Boy Scouts, the American Legion, the Iowa Soy Bean Association and the Iowa Corn Growers Association. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church for many years, and although unable to trace his ancestry to Norway, he was a very active member of the Sons of Norway.

Hal is survived by his wife, Audrey of St. Ansgar, his daughter, Nancy Featherstone of Dayton, Minnesota, and granddaugher Jennifer Moen of Champlin, Minnesota; his son Bryan and his wife Linda, and grandsons, Tyler and Collin; and his son, Mark and his wife Jane, and granddaughters, Laura and Hanna; his brother, Keith of Osage; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Curtis and Delores McGillivray of Rochester, Minnesota.

Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.
