Funeral services for Olaf E. Waldeland, 81, of Bloomington, were held on THursday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bloomington. Private interment at Sunset Memorial Park, Minneapolis.

Olaf Eggen "Ole" Waldeland was born on August 14, 1911 in St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa, the youngest of three sons to the Rev. M.E. [Martin Enoch] and Laura [Andrea] (Eggen) Waldeland. A graduate of Northfield High School, Olaf attended St. Olaf College for two years.

He married Doris [Lenore Bernice] Nesset on July 16, 1933. Employed by the State Motor Vehicle Department, and the DuPont Arms factory during the war years. He took a position as office manager for a building materials company in South St. Paul. In 1966 he opened the second Mr. Steak Restaurant in Minneapolis. Located in Richfield, the restaurant had a 20 year success story and was sold in 1987. Various physical ailments for Olaf, plus a generally regressive business climate closed a highly rewarding period in his life, according to his wife, Doris and son, Reid. Reid in later years shouldered much of his ill father's responsibilities.

Mr. Waldeland was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Conrad and Paul Waldeland.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Lynne Waldeland of Sycamore, Illinois, Dagny Waldeland of Minneapolis; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Gretchen Waldeland of Brooklyn Park, Reid and Elizabeth Waldeland of Bloomington; grandchildren Sara and Jordan Waldeland, step grandchildren, Bridget Waldeland, John Clarey and wife, Jennie; sister-in-law Mrs. C.R. (Hariette) Waldeland of Matawan, New Jersey; nieces Valdeane Alusic of West Action, Mass., and daughter Erika and son, Loren, Dorrit Edwards and husband Steven and sons, Peter, Graham and Drew of Matawan, New Jersey, and several cousins.

July 16, Olaf and Doris celebrated their 60th weding anniversary.
