OBITUARY:
-- Mrs. William Dieterichs of Cedar Township a Victim of Influenza Last Saturday Morning --
The community southwest of Osage lost one of its finest women last Saturday morning, when Mrs. William Dieterichs passed away from heart failure as a result of influenza. For weeks during the epidemic in her neighborhood, Mrs. Dieterichs has worked almost incessantly for the relief of others. She was widely known as a most capable woman, and one who in an unassuming way, was a strong force for good in the community in which she lived.
Johanna Charlotte Becker was born in Cedar Township [Mitchell county, Iowa] on April 14, 1880, to Ernest Becker and Emma Blum-Becker. She grew to womanhood in the home community, and was married on March 22, 1899 to William Dieterichs. Nine children blessed this happy home. One preceded the mother in death, but eight are left to claim the hallowed memory of a noble mother. They are: Verna, Maylon, Theodore, Stanley, Gladys, Paul, Frances, and Ruth. Other relatives are, besides the husband; Ernest Becker, her father; Albert Becker, a brother; Mrs. C.C. Wiggins, of Osage, and Miss Laura Becker, of Kansas City, sisters: and Miss Minnie Becker of Osage, an aunt.
Private funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J. Bertram, and she was laid to rest in St. John's Lutheran [Calvary] cemetery, in the neighborhood in which she spent such a useful life.
