At a ripe old age Mr. Gustav Rachut was called home last Thursday night, January 16, 1919.
Mr. Rachut was born on February 28, 1837 at Rehwinkel, Province of Pommerania, Germany, and also baptized and confrimed in the Lutheran church at that place. His father was Christian Rachut, and his mother was Eleonora Friedrike Richter. As a man he served as a mail carrier.

In 1877 Mr. Rachut came to America, and after spending a few months at Marshall, Wisconsin, he came to make his home in Rock township, Mitchell county, Iowa, where he spent his life on the farm till he came to St. Ansgar in 1907.
The deceased had always enjoyed good health till a little over a year ago, a small sore on his face was found to be a cancer. He suffered severely at times; and though he bore his burden bravely, death came as a relief to him last Thursday night.
The time of his pilgrimage was 81 years, 10 months and 18 days. He leaves to mourn: his aged widow, his sons, Albert and Edward, and his daughters, Mrs. Otto Bartz and Mrs. Richard Beyer, eighteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral was held last Sunday with services at G.L. church [Immanuel (German) Lutheran Church] and cemetery, Rev. Brammer officiating.
