Mary Jane Wallingford was born in South Burwick, March the 29th, 1929. Died at her home the 10th of June, 1914, Aged, 85 years, 2 months, 11 days.
She was married to Lorenzo D. Piper September, 1850.
Two daughters were born to them, Ida W. and Mary A., now deceased. Mrs Torslef survives her. She united with the Congregational church when but a child in the state of Maine and was an active worker in it all her life. She became a member of the Congregational church in Mitchell by letter May the 15th, 1872, of which church she remained a consistent member, except six years while living in Osage.
She was devoted to her church and took a lively interest in all its affairs, seldom missing a service, frequently walking from her home when teams were tired from the toll of the farm.
Mrs. Piper was a christian woman of rare qualities. She was always kind in speech and act, always meeting the world with a smile. In all the years of my acquaintance with her I never knew her to speak an unkind word of any one. Her christian graces were indeed rare. In all the many months of her last illness there was never a word of complaint but always a beautiful sweetness of resignation to the will of Him who doeth all things well.
Her home has been in this county ever since coming to the west in 1857, and that home was always an open house to all who needed shelter.
She has finished a long and eventful life, and passed sweetly to her reward.
Funeral services were held at her home conducted by Rev. O. M. Van Swearingen in compliance with her request made a number of years ago while he was her pastor.
