Alma (Brandt) Sweeney, daughter of Peter D. Brandt and Evelyn (Kleckner) Brandt - 11/20/1915 - 11/15/2005
NEW HAVEN, IOWA - Alma G. Sweeney, 89, of New Haven, Mitchell county, Iowa, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
Alma was born on November 20, 1915, in Douglas Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, to Peter D. and Evelyn E. (Kleckner) Brandt.
She was united in marriage to Clarence Mellen Sweeney on Aug. 12, 1931, in Waterloo, Iowa. Alma and Clarence farmed all of their lives north of New Haven. Alma was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven and a member of St. Peter's Altar Society, where she was a past president. Alma was also a member of the NABA Women's Life Organization.
She was a very social person, enjoying card clubs and bus trips. Alma loved sewing, cooking and gardening, especially her rose garden. She loved politics and was very adamant about her views. Plans were in the making for her 90th birthday on November 20. Alma squeezed every bit of enjoyment out of life.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in New Haven.
Alma is survived by a daughter, LaVonne (Jim) Regan of Avon, Ind., and her three sons, Douglas, David, and Thomas Johnson; two sons, Gene (Dorthy) Sweeney of New Haven, and their children, Coreen, Brett, Michele, Sean, Gale and Ivy, and Don (Sue) Sweeney of New Haven and their children, Angela, Melissa and Christopher; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Peter and Evelyn Brandt; her husband, Clarence Sweeney, in January 2001, and her sister, Betty Guthart, and Betty's husband, Wendell Guthart.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Friday at the church.
