Death of Mrs. Benjamin D. Nicholas
Cora Virilla Brainard was born March 24, 1860, in the town of DeRalb, St. Low Co. N.Y. With her parents she came to Iowa in the autumn of 1864.
She was married March 24, 1886, to Benjamin D. Nicholas. Four children, two sons and two daughters, were born to them. These children have reached the age when they most need a mother's care and instruction. May the kind heavenly Father shield and guide these young lives.
About one year after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas removed to Lake Park, Dickinson county, Iowa, where they lived until the autumn of 1897, when they returned to Mitchell county. They settled in Liberty township, where Sister Nicholas lived until Saturday last, when she was called to the home above.
She was converted in youth and joined the M.E. Church in Stacyville, July 18, 1874, being received into membership by Rev. H. H. Hammond. She has lived a consistent, Christian life. She was not prejudiced in her religious views. For convenience sake, being remote from a Methodist church, she worshiped since her return to this county with the Free Will Baptist Church at David. She leaves many evidences of her sincerity and faithfulness.
The husband and her four children, the mother and brothers who are left, are cheered by the thought that they will meet again. She rests in peace.
Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church at Stacyville, Monday, June 18, by Rev. A. B. Calder, assisted by Rev. Wilson of Little Cedar.
