OBITUARY.

Jonathan Hubbard Chandler was born at Upper Bartlett, N. H. Feb. 19, 1834, and passed away at North Conway N. H. Oct. 20, 1914 at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 1 day. When 17 years of age he went to live at Milton, Mass., where in June, 1855, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary O'Connor.

Shortly after they moved to Geneseo, Illinois where two sons were born, Fred H. of Mitchell, and George of Spokane, Wash., both of who survive him. They returned to Massachusetts and at the outbreak of the Civil War Mr. Chandler enlisted in the 88th regiment of Massachusetts volunteers and served until honorably discharged for disability.

After the war the family moved to Riceville, where they lived about a year and a half. They then moved to Kansas, where they lived two years. Returning to Riceville, Mr. Chandler engaged in farming for several years and later bought the Riceville creamery,which he operated for a number of years.

Since the death of his wife on May 23, 1905, Mr. Chandler had made his home part of the time with his son Fred and in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where he went seeking relief from asthma, from which he had been a great sufferer ever since the war. He was very charitable, always ready to help the poor and needy.

While not a member of any church, he had a great respect for sacred things, was a great reader of the Bible, and always ready to defend the truths taught therein. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his two sons, nine grandchildren, also one brother and other relatives in New Hampshire.

The funeral services were held at the Congregational church at Mitchell on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 24, by Rev. O. M. Van Swearingen. He was laid to rest beside his wife in the beautiful Osage cemetery.
