Miss Betsy Wood was born in Georgeville, Canada, April 29, 1818, and died at the home of her sister, Mrs. P. A. Cole, in Osage, Iowa, October 31, 1906.
When still a child she moved with her parents to Derby, Vermont, where she lived until 1862, when with her father and sister she came to Osage, her mother having died prior to that time. Her brother, the late William Wood, had settled in Osage a few years previous, and it was with him that the sisters made their home until his death several years ago since which time they have resided together.
Miss Wood united with the Congregational church at Derby, Vermont, when eighteen years of age and since that time has been a faithful member of that denomiation.
For several years past she has been in failing health due to old age during which time she has been tenderly cared for by her sister, Mrs. Pheobe Ann Cole. She was a devoted sister, a good true woman, who found not her joy in society though she knew how to love and appreciate her friends but in the home sacrificing for the comfort and welfare of those near and dear to her.
The funeral services conducted by Rev. H. O. Allen were held at the home Thursday afternoon at two o'clock and the body was laid to rest in the Osage cemetery.
