Helen Lezotte was born in Chazy, New York, October 9, 1832, and died in Osage, Iowa, April 29, 1901, thus being in the 70th year of her age. On May 7, 1853 she was united in marriage to Ira Sheldon, thus lacking but little of half a century of married life.

There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon, five children, three sons and two daughters. The oldest daughter was buried just twenty years ago today and one son died four years ago. The other two sons, Lewis and Will and the other daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Fowler, together with their father remain to mourn the loss of a mother and wife.

Besides these among the near relatives remaining are two brothers in New York, one in Nebraska and Henry Lezotte of Osage. There are also sixteen grandchildren, all here except four and five great grand children.

For more than twenty-five years Mrs. Sheldon has been very sorely afflicted. She took a severe cold which settled in her eyes causing a complete paralysis of the nerve. Medical skill utterly failed to relieve her. During these years she has been cared for by a devoted daughter who has practicaly spent her whole life caring for her mother. She had often said she didn't know what she would do without this faithful daughter and had frequently said to this daughter in her lonliness, "don't leave me." During these years she has exhibited rare patience and Christian fortitude. Who that has not experienced it can even imagine the affliction caused by the loss of sight? Thank God for the hope that the eyes of the blind shall see! Thank God in the heavenly home heavenly eyes are granted heavenly men and women!
The funeral services were held at the house Wednesday morning and were conducted by Rev. D.I. Coon of the Baptist church.
