OBITUARY
George B. Hammond was born Sept. 15, 1860 near Paygan, Winnebago County, Wis. When he was 12 years old he moved with his parents to a farm west of Little Cedar. He was educated in the rural schools and at the Cedar Valley seminary at Osage.
He was married on July 26, 1888 to Eva E. Pingry, and for a number of years they lived on a farm in Jenkins township. With the exception of the last three years almost his entire life was spent in Mitchell County.
He died at Mason City, Iowa, January 16, 1929, at the age of 68 years. One brother, Frank died about three years ago.
Beside him he leaves one brother, Edward, of Stockton, Cal., one half-brother, Charles of Rochester, N.Y.; His wife, Eva Hammond, and two daughters, Mabel Hammond and Ethel Koon of Riceville.
Only those who knew him best can fully appreciate how truly his life was patterned after the spirit of the teaching of Christ. He always considered their happiness before his own, was always ready to help in time of
need and never judged or spoke unkindly of others. The funeral was held last Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wilmer Koon, at Riceville.
