Janette Dahley, age 91, of Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa, died suddenly in her sleep on Monday, August 11, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage, with Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
Janette was born Mary Alice Janette Forslund to Carl John and Oline (Churness) Forslund on December 27, 1916, in Osage. She graduated from Osage High School and subsequently received her B.A. degree from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, in 1938.
She married Erling Dahley of Osage in 1938 and the couple raised five children on a farm southwest of Osage. They were long time members of Rock Creek Lutheran Church where she was a choir director. Later in life, the couple moved to North Bend, Oregon, where Janette continued her education and received her master's degree in education from the University of Oregon in 1969. She taught piano lessons and music education in the Coos Bay public schools.
She and Erling returned for their retirement to Mason City in 1979. After Erling's death in 1999, Janette returned to her home town of Osage. Janette loved her Lord, and her family was very dear to her heart. She will be missed so very much by her family and everyone who knew her.
Janette is survived by four children, Elon (Judy) Dahley of Mason City, Wayne Dahley of Rockwell, Corinne (Ron) Gambach of Cedar Rapids, Richard (Jeanne) Dahley of Osage; a son-in-law, Bob Frein of Osage; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one new great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother, Odell (Alice) Forslund of Forest City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erling Dahley; and a daughter, Marlene Frein, who died in 2006.
