Martha E. Lange, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Augusta Lange, was born Nov. 1, 1874 at Farmington, Wisconsin, where she was baptized on November 15th of the same year. At the age of 4 she came with her parents to Iowa, settling at Grafton on the Otto Lange farm, three miles northwest of Grafton, where they resided until 1897 when Mr. and Mrs. Lange moved to town.
Martha was confirmed in the Grafton, Lutheran church on March 31, 1889. She lived in the parental home all her life with the exception of a few years spent assisting in various homes in Mason City.
She had enjoyed fairly good health all her life, but since last spring had not been so well and therefore had spent most of her time with her brother, Gustave and wife on the farm.
October 26 she came to town with her brother to do a little work at her home and had went up town; on the way home she apparently suffered a heart attack and passed away.
Miss Martha was a faithful member of the Lutheran church all her life.
Those left to mourn her passing are: two brothers, Gustave of Grafton, and William of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Mary of Mason City, and Lydia of Minneapolis. One brother, Otto, and one sister Augusta, and both parents preceded her in death. She had attained the age of 67 years, 11 months and 26 days.
Funeral rites were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at the local Lutheran church at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. H. L. Lechner officiating.
Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery.
