Wilbur Clarence Biederman, age 87, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center-Hospice Unit, in Osage, Iowa, after a battle with cancer. Memorial services were held at on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the United Church of Christ in Osage, with Pastor Ruth Moerdyk officiating. Inurnment was at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell with military honors at the grave by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920 and Grafton American Legion Post 616.

Wilbur was born September 29, 1920, on the family farm in Mitchell County, the son of Clarence and Florence (Adams) Biederman. He was a graduate of Osage High School and Iowa State University. Wilbur was a Pi Kappa Phi and kept a close friendship with many of his fraternity brothers. He joined the navy before graduating from Iowa State and became a 1st Class Petty Officer.

While stationed in Chicago, he met and married Eleanor Klein on November 8, 1944. After the war, they moved to Ames to complete his degree in Animal Husbandry and moved to the family farm where he has lived until his passing. Wilbur farmed from 1946 to 1984, and was a very dedicated farmer, from the livestock to the variety of crops he raised. He joined Archer Oil in 1953 and was active in sales.

He was an Amway dealer since 1964, and also sold insurance and received his realtor licenses. Wilbur was a member of the Osage V.F.W., Grafton American Legion, and the Osage Masonic Lodge. He had a passion for dancing, gardening, fishing and playing the Sizzling 7's. Wilbur loved to drive everywhere. He was an avid reader and lover of history. Wilbur showered us with his canned and cooked goods.

Wilbur is survived by his four children, Bruce Biederman of Osage, Ann (Marty) Perry of South Port, N.C., Gary (Sue) Biederman of Everly, Iowa, Gwen (Joe) Paulson of Osage; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Marion Spodnic of Bridgewater, Conn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eleanor; his second wife Shirley; his brother Robert; and a nephew David.
